Teaching Courses

If you’ve decided that a career in Gaelic teaching could be for you, there are a number of access routes to enable you to work in either primary or secondary education.

If you’re considering applying for a teacher training course, you will need to meet basic entry requirements. It’s also advisable to have some experience of working with children and if possible, observing teaching practices.

You could gain this experience by volunteering to work in local schools or other organisations that work with children. In order to carry out voluntary work, schools would require candidates to be in receipt of a Disclosure Scotland certificate beforehand and applications for this can be made at http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/

To teach through the medium of Gaelic, fluency and literacy in the language is essential.
To teach in Scotland, you’ll need to be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTC) and maintain your registration fees on an annual basis.
